Open Mic
An Open Mic reading for poets and other writers will take place on Sunday, May 19 from 3:00pm-5:00PM at the Council. Readers should be 18 years and older and use appropriate language.

You are also welcome to stop-by the Arts Council on the day of registration with a check or cash for payment.

Writers Workshop

Writing From the Heart

Enjoy some time with Cynthia Moore Brown, acclaimed storyteller, artist, author, and Onslow County native. She will share her unique and creative ideas on writing that will help you get in touch with your passion. Cynthia is a talented photographer and artist so she will share illustration techniques from her books. Cynthia’s stories can be enjoyed on her CD “Ghost Stories from the Graveyard.” Her books include Folktales and Ghost Stories of North Carolina’s Piedmont, Folklore and Food and a new book to be released in 2013.
Course Description:
In this workshop, we will offer writing techniques, marketing ideas, and some inspiration. She will also give you options for getting published. You will be inspired by her books, CDs and a folktale or two for fun. Please come prepared with a sample of your writing. Keep a brief journal of your ideas for a week to also bring to share. Equipment needed is a notebook, writing tools, and an open mind.
Participants will receive a free booklet of information and lots of ideas to take with them.
Following the workshop at 4:00pm there will be a small reception and book signing for her newest book: Folklore and Food-folktales centering around family and down-home cooking.
Bring your lunch so an informal break can revive everyone.
