Riverwalk Arts Festival is postponed!
Due to impacts from coronavirus and the need to center the health and safety of our community, we have made the necessary decision to postpone this event. If you have purchased a spot as a booth or food truck vendor or registered as a plein air painter, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know if you’d like a refund.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Riverwalk Arts Festival is on its way! And it’s developing into our area’s signature arts and culture festival.
Riverwalk Arts Festival, formerly Art Block, celebrates creative & cultural diversity in our community through experiences in art, music, dance, theater, food and more.
Riverwalk Arts Festival helps to broaden local art perspectives and enrich our community through diverse expressions of creativity. It supports local artists and art groups. Riverwalk Arts Festival also builds new relationships and a sense of community.
In addition to the festival, we host the Plein Air Paint Out competition for plein air artists throughout the region. These works are judged by a professional plein air painter with cash prizes being given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

The Riverwalk Arts Festival kicks off with the Plein Air Paint Out competition!
Plein air, which is French for “outdoors”, is painting that is done outside rather than in a studio setting. This traditional technique is kept alive through plein air painters who capture scenes in paint as they deftly navigate challenges like changing light, finding a steady place for their easels, and varying weather conditions.
This year we have made a few updates to the Plein Air Paint Out:
- Paint anywhere in Onslow County
- A full week to come in and get your blank canvases stamped
- Judging and Award Ceremony at the Riverwalk Arts Festival Opening Ceremony
- Those who choose to paint during the Riverwalk Arts Festival for the chance to win the Director’s Choice Award (free to enter)
- Paint in the competition and have a booth at the Riverwalk Arts Festival. Painters get a $15 booth discount.
